Shoes

The primary purpose of the shoe is to protect the feet and prevent injury”.

Point taken!

“But in order to do so, they must fit well”.

Point taken again!

I strive for these two marvellous reasons to cover my feet but surely there is nothing wrong in wishing for more, is there!

Can't I have the best of both worlds..
comfort, protection and downright gorgeous?

There is something very tantalising about that willowy figure on 5 inch heels, the smooth silky glide, the shape of that never-ending leg.

If you are one of the lucky ones that can swallow about in stilettos without flinching there are many who envy you. Oh how I pine for that look.

I think I would definitely appear 2 stone lighter if only I could go 5 inches higher.

I'm afraid it's not to be though. I cannot even stand up in them at the store let alone walk along the smooth carpeted runway.  So, there is absolutely no hope for me taking to the greater outdoors.

I might as well break my leg in the confines of the hospital and get immediate medical assistance to save myself the horror of falling in the street.

I know my limitations; I know it would happen; I know I am preventing a potential catastrophe.

Then I came across a little article by Stephanie Pedersen singing the praises of high heels and a newsy story on how to learn to walk in them.

The beginning of her story goes like this:

 "Need to look alluring, fast?

Forget that you're 10 pounds heavier than you'd like to be, hate your hair, or wished you looked better in red lipstick

—high heels can make you look seductive right now by drawing attention to your shapely ankles, making your legs look longer, your backside more prominent, your breasts more pert and giving your strut a sensual swagger.

Voila! Instant sex appeal!

However, if you avoid the allure-adding appeal of high heels simply out of fear or inexperience, it's time to step up to the stiletto, strap it on, and learn how to take a step in the thing."

Well and good! I've read the rest of the article and the painstaking hours that need to go into the actual learningand it doesn't really seem worth the effort to me.

It requires full on, complete and constant mastery - and yes, whilst it may well work, I don’t think I have the patience or the time to hone this stiletto wearing skill.

And then there were the added details at the end of Stephanie's article:

"if you start to fall in heels three inches or greater and there is nothing near to brace yourself with, let yourself go down.

Of course you'll be embarrassed, but trying to regain your balance may cause you to break your ankle—or at least your shoe,"

This completely put me off even attempting!!!

So that said, I will embark on another of my many missions. If I can't wear the "alluring" high heels, my quest is to find a shoe designer that makes shoes that are equally alluring (without the high heel) but still be:

(a)  sexy, gorgeous, interesting, playful, different and exciting;  but also including the necessary;

(b)  soft and comfortable feel;  and most importantly that they are;

(c) reasonably priced

Is that possible?

Well, I don't know really! I am aware of shoes (a) (b) and (c) being available separately or in combinations of two:

but where is the shoe that delivers the (a), (b) and (c).

As we become wiser, we become wiser!

We want comfort and what's wrong with that!

We are aware of the damage inflicted by uncomfortable and ill fitting shoes and we are no longer prepared to take that risk.

It just takes us ages to recover from a whole day of wearing those gorgeous but painful fashion items. It's just not fair.

We want to look "the goods without the pain"!

Why do manufacturers think we have lost interest in our footwear when we have actually taken a keener interest in it!

Well, I say to designers out there, we want style and fashion on our feet, with comfort to boot.  And we want them to be reasonably priced.

So while men might find the look of heels rather sexy - there is one reason they should stop and reconsider, as this anonymous quote so nicely reflects:

"Upon wearing high heels for the first time, the girl noticed bald spots on top of men's heads"

Touché!
