Recently, I was watching, “The Today Show”, on morning TV when my attention was captured by an interview featuring Carolyn Cleaves from Carolyn’s Facial Fitness™.

Here was this elegant and radiant woman aged 63 looking absolutely fabulous, and attributing her youthful looks to her facial exercise regime and skin care formulas.

I have to tell you, I did a double take on this woman and even cleaned my spectacles as I couldn’t believe that she could look so young without surgery!

I was totally mesmerized by what Carolyn had to say, no need for expensive and scary surgery or Botox injections, by performing daily facial exercises you can “turn back the clock”.

It sounded too good to be true!


I desperately want to "turn back the clock" so I decided that I would begin my quest by doing the neck exercises that Carolyn had demonstrated on the show.


Within a couple of weeks, my saggy, lined neck is already showing signs of improvement! It is visually tightening up and becoming less lined.


It’s unbelievable but true!


I wanted to share my exciting revelation with all of our wise women readers so I decided to contact Carolyn (who lives in the USA) to ask if she would share the key to her younger, fresher and glowing appearance with us.
She kindly agreed and said,

“Aging gracefully has been my number one goal and I feel truly inspired that I can offer this to all women”.


It has taken Carolyn about 4 years to develop her systems, and she explains that facial exercises, combined with her skin care line is not only extremely beneficial but it is also economical for obtaining a truly younger, fresher appearance.
Like me, I’m sure you also want to keep looking your very best as you age and if we can do it at an economical price…that’s a bonus.


I was fascinated by what this charming woman had to say and I really enjoyed our interview (below), I hope you do too.


LANA:
Hi Carolyn I recently saw you on the “Today” show in Sydney, and I was so surprised to hear that you are 63 years of age and attribute your youthful appearance to facial exercises and organic skincare, is there anything else that you do or use to keep your skin looking so radiant and supple?


CAROLYN:
  Certainly the facial exercises have contributed to helping me to reverse the aging process. There is no doubt about that. While the facial exercises have firmed up my face and neck they have also improved my complexion.

Ten times more oxygen comes to a contracting muscle and this in turn helps to revitalize the skin. Toxins are also whisked away through the facial exercises, making for a healthy-looking skin, too. 

And while I was able to diminish greatly many of my deeper wrinkles in the face, I still had fine lines, especially along the cheeks that I hated. I was able to devise a simple facial exercise that one performs in front of the mirror when applying these remarkable organic and natural skin care products and the results have been amazing. Those fine lines are almost invisible now. 

The dreaded brown/age spots are all but eliminated, too.


Of course, I have always eaten a whole foods diet for the last 45 years and kept with exercising my body as well. I still do not have any gray hair and at 63 I attribute much of this to a very stress-free, happy, healthy life-style.

It’s not only the combination of exercises, skin care and diet that’s helped me to feel and look youthful, it’s allowing meditation and happiness to be paramount in my life, as well.


LANA:
  It sounds fantastic Carolyn, however what inspired you to explore facial exercises as a way to improve wrinkles and how long have you been doing it for?


CAROLYN:
  When I was 52 years old I had gained and lost 50 pounds over a 3 year time span. To my dismay I not only had loose skin on my neck and face...  But my jowls were making me look like a bulldog. A nice-looking bulldog, but nevertheless. Sigh...


When I was still modelling in my teens, I saw many a young woman – 24 years old – getting eye-lifts and tucks, etc... They all looked fantastic for the first few years. THEN! ALWAYS they looked distorted and needed “more work”.

My beautiful mother was no exception.  She had her first complete face lift at age 48 and looked gorgeous for about 3 years. Around year 4 or 5, she started looking a bit distorted. By the time she was my age, 63, she looked “permanently surprised” and not at all like herself. She also had a huge loss of expression. This was not for me. Yet, I wanted to do something. If I’d told people I was 55 when I was 52, they would have said, “Yes. That’s about right”. Today, my age is guessed to be between 38 and 45. Not bad!


So, here I was on a quest to look younger without surgery.  No internet was available at the time. I started to read magazines and books.  I hit the bookstores. New and used alike.  I found ads in the back of the magazines. It was here I bought and I started with one of those electrical “zappers” you hold up to the face for 45 minutes a day. I lasted about 2 weeks, which was way too long for the results I got. But, I did get a little toning of the face.  This got me interested in the possibility and thinking about exercising the face.  I looked further into this area.


I finally found this great book by Sanford Bennett, published in 1907 ... about the man who never aged. There were facial exercises in it. I tried them. I started to get better results. I have advanced university degrees and I am a big-time researcher. I ended up buying all the books and tapes I could on facial exercises that were available at the time.


Eventually, I assembled over 56 exercises and 90 minutes worth of facial techniques. I knew I’d never keep this up. Plus, I didn’t especially like the build I was getting from many of these exercises.  So, I consulted a physician friend of mine and a professor of anatomy and physiology. Between the 3 of us, we came up with the 28 foundational exercises that are the correct combination for giving the most elegant, balanced and strong look to the face and neck.  And all of this to be performed in only a 15-minute workout.

Since the physiology for the face and neck are essentially the same for both men and women, it was a real winning combination.  

The schoolteacher in me helped me to make the CFF™ system easy to learn and easy to use and the doctors made it safe and sure to give good results.  

I’ve been performing my CFF™ facial exercises for over 13 years now and I can honestly say that I look younger today than I did when I made the DVD at age 59. It’s fascinating.


LANA:
Carolyn, you’ve certainly invested a lot of time and research into devising the best possible techniques and I know that many of our readers will be as enthusiastic about getting started as I was, and I’m sure they will be keen to find out how long it generally takes once you have begun your facial exercises to see visible improvements?


CAROLYN:
  Most everyone sees some kind of result within the first 2 weeks.  That “tired look” we tend to get as we age is first to go. Then, every 3 to 4 months, we make what I call a “youth jump”. That is, you look a little bit younger every few months for the first few years from exercising the face and neck. Then, the jumps get further apart, but they do continue.  


Facial exercises are not a quick fix, but you will get results over time when you are consistent. And, consistency means one 15-minute workout only three times a week and you get these fantastic results. Plus, you age well with facial exercises.  There is no loss of expression and you have these good-looking contours to the face that truly give the impression of youth.

Many of my clientele are actors and actresses.  They don’t like Botox®, surgery and fillers because of the loss of expression. A disaster for an actor. 


One hears comments from other people somewhere around the fifth month, like “Have you lost weight?” or “Someone got a good night’s sleep?”  You start to look more refreshed. Your skin improves and your flexibility in your neck and face also improves, giving the impression of a younger person, as well.


LANA:
You also said in your interview that you can rub out those wrinkles, please, please tell us more?


CAROLYN:
 Actually, the first time I read about this was in the facial exercise book from 1907. Later, Dr. Frederick Rossiter, M.D., a professor of anatomy and physiology from the 1960's in his book, “Face Culture” published in 1957 expanded on this technique for rubbing out wrinkles.


Dr. Frederick Rossiter talks about how beneficial massage is to the forehead in particular and the entire face, over all. He's the one that emphasizes the importance of contracting a muscle underneath the skin before rubbing out a wrinkle. 
Essentially he says a massage without contraction is beneficial for relaxation and circulation but not to eliminate wrinkles. He is very emphatic about keeping the muscles in contraction before rubbing across the skin. He began to use this method himself in his sixties and had great results. In the meanwhile, so have we by using the exercises and techniques offered in the CFF™ program!


A deep wrinkle is caused by skin adhering to underlying tissue. Whenever the muscle contracts, the skin is pulled down, creating a valley.  This valley we call a wrinkle.  Botox®, for example, essentially paralyses muscle. If the muscle can't contract, you don't see the valley.  The problem is, as soon as Botox® wears off, the wrinkle is back!  A more sensible and permanent approach for deep wrinkles is to strengthen muscle, but also to free up the skin where it is stuck down. 


CFF™ offers a three-step technique for actually releasing or "de-tacking" the adhering skin and then teaches you how to actually rub out the wrinkle. Just as you can rub out a wrinkle in a piece of shoe leather, you can also rub out a wrinkle in the face. As with a shoe, you must place a sock under the area on which you wish to work so that you create a firm surface on which to rub out that line.

You will need to be sure you always contract the muscle underneath the skin area on which you work, as well.  I’m proof that it works. I’ve rubbed out and greatly diminished my crow’s feet, forehead lines, cheek lines and lines in my neck.
 

LANA:  Ageing well is very important for most women and many of us are desperate to turn back the clock, can we do this completely naturally?


CAROLYN:
  Absolutely. Remember, facial exercises are not only corrective but they are preventative, as well. Naturally, the older we are, the longer it takes to get results, but everyone will benefit from facial exercises.

The constant is that you must be persistent. The longer you engage in facial exercises, the better the result.

LANA:
  You have spoken about exercises and skin care having corrective and preventative effects on ageing; can you start the exercises at any age?


CAROLYN:
  Yes. I have one client who started facial exercises when she was twenty years old. She’s now forty. She started with isometrics. When she was around thirty-four, she noticed that she was losing the battle of sagging to gravity. So, she wanted to step up her routine by adding muscle resistance exercises to her regime.

She came to me. We were able to give her back her youthful look very quickly. And, what is notable about her is she does not have one line in her face, today. She started early enough to be completely preventative.

The older you are, the more set your wrinkles can be. Almost like scars. But, you can still make them very faint lines using the exercises and techniques in the CFF™ system.

However, preventative is always the best strategy.


LANA:
  As we age, many of us develop unattractive double chins or “turkey necks” which really ages our appearance.

How effective is CFF™ (Carolyn’s Facial Fitness) on these troublesome areas?



CAROLYN:
 Double chins and turkey necks take longer to address, but over time you will have success.  The CFF system has a routine called, “The Turkey Flap Eliminator”. It will take awhile, but you will improve and in some cases eliminate those bothersome flaps and bulges. 

I had a very noticeable double chin when I’d first lost weight, but it is completely gone now. Remember, I was 52 when I started and I’m going to be 64 in five months, so if I can do it, almost anyone can.



*Place your open hand at the base of your throat, stretched across your collarbone. 

*Holding your hand down, extend your neck up, leading with your chin and stretch with your bottom jaw, only, towards the ceiling.  

*Do NOT swallow, but rather reach with your bottom lip towards the ceiling “looking” like a gulping fish. Make 10 “gulps”.

*Do 5 sets, changing hands for each round.


LANA:  The difference you have made to your own neck is just amazing; your appearance really inspires me to keep up the regular exercises.


Another problem area for me is the deep vertical frown lines between my eyes, they make me look like I’m perpetually worried or stressed out.

Is it possible to improve these deep set wrinkles?


CAROLYN:
  Oh yes. The dreaded “elevens” as they’re called.  There are three specific sets of facial exercises in the CFF system that will eliminate those lines to almost nothing and make that area flatter and smoother than ever. 

If they are very deep-set and like scars, they will always be there a little bit, but you can truly eliminate those lines to fine lines and open up this area between the brows. 

This immediately helps you to look years younger. It’s really a lot of fun.
 

LANA: You’ve made me a very happy girl; I must get working on my dreaded “elevens”!


Carolyn you also have a skin care line, can you tell us more about it?


CAROLYN:

  Besides the facial exercises, a good wholesome diet and using good skin care products, I have to tell you the biggest beauty secret I know.

It’s NOT only drinking enough water. It is getting enough sleep.  When I was modelling, the photographer always knew if I’d gone to bed later than midnight.

Did you know that when you sleep, your skin actually builds collagen? Your whole body rejuvenates and repairs itself while you slumber. You need 7 to 8 hours a night.

And, I have to say that meditation, living a stress-free life as possible with lots of laughter will not only help you to look younger, but feel younger as well.


LANA:
I really must try and get more sleep!
