The Natural Way : Miracles of Coconut Oil

Miracles of Coconut Oil

Australian women will probably recall our teenage years heading to the beach in summer where the smell of coconut oil was intoxicating.

In those days we were naively unaware of UV damage and smothered our bikini clad bodies with the oil to fry ourselves under the intense sun. I even remember paying a guy on the beach who sprayed coconut oil on bodies as a business. What were we doing to our skin!!!

Thank heavens we don't treat ourselves like roast turkeys any longer!

I recently discovered that coconut oil is back in vogue and is now used for good and not evil.

According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, coconut oil was fed as 7% of energy to patients recovering from heart attacks, the patients had greater improvement compared to untreated controls, and no difference compared to patients treated with corn or safflower oils. Populations that consume coconut oil have low rates of heart disease. Coconut oil may also be one of the most useful oils to prevent heart disease because of its antiviral and antimicrobial characteristics.

Many people shy away from coconut oil because it’s high in saturated fat. This fat found in high concentrations in coconut oil will not increase cholesterol, but in fact lower cholesterol. One must understand that coconut oil is the healthiest oil available to mankind. When frying food, a national pastime here in many parts of the world, coconut oil will not convert to trans-fatty acids. Using safflower, corn, canola and even the coveted extra virgin olive oil will cause arterial damage when used for frying!

Here’s some great information about coconut oil:

  • Does not contain cholesterol.
  • Does not increase blood cholesterol level.
  • Does not promote platelet stickiness which leads to blood clot formation.
  • Does not contribute to atherosclerosis or heart disease.
  • Does not promote cancer or any other degenerative disease.
  • Does not contribute to weight problems.
  • Reduces risk of atherosclerosis and related illnesses.
  • Reduces risk of cancer and other degenerative conditions.
  • Helps prevent bacterial, viral, and fungal (including yeast) infections.
  • Supports immune system function.
  • Helps prevent osteoporosis.
  • Helps control diabetes.
  • Promotes weight loss.
  • Supports healthy metabolic function.
  • Provides an immediate source of energy.
  • Supplies fewer calories than other fats.
  • Supplies important nutrients necessary for good health.
  • Improves digestion and nutrient absorption.
  • Has a mild delicate flavour. Is highly resistant to spoilage (long shelf life.
  • Is heat resistant (the healthiest oil for cooking).
  • Helps keep skin soft and smooth.
  • Helps prevent premature aging and wrinkling of the skin.
  • Helps protect against skin cancer and other blemishes

You can lavish you body with it too, not to baste your skin though like we did in the old days, but to moisturise.

Here's the recipe - try it ...it feels so good and smells pretty good too.

COCONUT BODY OIL

80ml/ 2.5fl oz tub of coconut oil\15 drops of your favourite essential oil.

Remove the lid from the coconut oil and place the tub in a large saucepan with water; heat gently, until the oil liquifies. add you favourite essential oil and stir well. replace the lid and put the tub in the fridge for 15 minutes. apply generously all over your body but not your face. Beward that the oil can stain clothes , so avoid dressing until the oil has been fully absorbed by the skin.

ENJOY!
