Wise Women Blog Lana

Hi and Welcome Wise Women

How are you? Blooming Beautiful I trust.

I hope you have had a healthy and happy week and are easing yourself into Xmas shopping mode..

My Week

What a weekend I had! I felt like a teenager again (I can almost remember what that feels like).

Hubby and I and a couple of friends went to Mudgee (wine country) to see an outdoor concert held in the green and grassy grounds of a winery.

We were fortunate enough to have VIP tickets which included elevated reserved seating, complimentary wine and beer and all meals (lunch and dinner).

The weather forecast predicted rain and cool weather but the heavens were kind to us and we soaked up glorious sunshine.

The evening temperature was mild but soon hotted up when the main act (John Farnham) appeared on stage to much fanfare and inviting us to sing and rock along with him.

We felt like carefree teens and danced like we had youth on our side!

You couldn’t wipe the smiles from our faces.

The small, sleepy country town of Mudgee was bustling with concert going people, predominately baby boomers as all the acts appealed to our genre.

It looked like there was a Wise Women’s convention in town!

The surrounding area of the town is wine country and we spent a day visiting a few wineries sampling their best.

Shiraz and white port seems to be the most desired drops.

Olives also grow successfully in the area and we had our share of olives and olive oil as well...delicious.

Power Women Down Under!

Hillary Clinton is in town. Welcome Hillary!
Apart from her good work, I'm sure she has been enjoying her time here, having a chance to share her girly side with our Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

Oprah Winfrey Australian tickets
went on offer last week. We had 48 hours to register and sign up for a ballot. As you can imagine, her website was in melt down mode.

I've got my fingers crossed that I am one of the lucky ones chosen.

In Oprah I trust!

Healthy Hints

Did you know... that tomatoes can help prevent cardiovascular disease, premature ageing, cancer and cataracts?

According to scientists from the University of Cambridge, tomatoes can also protect against strokes and heart problems.

They contain lycopene, which helps prevent bad cholesterol in the blood. Tomatoes also contain potent antioxidant properties which has the ability to neutralise oxygen-derived free radicals which cause cell damage and chronic disease.

One cup of tomato soup contains seven times more antioxidant lycopene than one fresh tomato.

I love tomatoes and my favourite way to eat them is by skinning them, cutting into chunks, cooking them in a saucepan with a generous tipple of good virgin olive oil and a slurp of balsamic vinegar. Serve on hot multigrain toast – yum.

I know what I’m having for dinner tonight!

What Will Our Future Hold?

Have you thought about how you are going to spend the rest of your life?

Many of us are still only in our fifties and sixties and with the incredible advances in medicine we may be here for another 40 years!

What will we do with our time? Is it time to start planning for the future?

My local GP was discussing this subject with me recently and she is planning to live to 100!

The good doc has already decided to look for new interests and activities that will be appropriate as she ages.

I guess it’s important that we keep our bodies fit and healthy and our bones strong as this journey ahead could be a much longer ride than we anticipated.

Happy, Happy

Life does have its trials and tribulations as we all know, and times can be challenging, however, if we take a moment from our busy day, each day, we should try to feel the happiness within.

Sometimes this is not easy I know, but if you can isolate yourself for a few minutes and sit quietly somewhere (even if it’s on the toilet), take a few slow deep breaths and think about the things you are grateful for. Try and think of 10 things.

As you think about these 10 things that you are grateful for, you will notice that happiness gradually returns and you will begin to feel brighter.

Warning - You may look a bit funny sitting on the loo with a smile on your face!

Why not share your happiness with others, smile often and greet people warmly, by doing this you can brighten up a person’s day.

We all want to feel good – isn’t that what life’s about?
