WELCOME TO MY WISE WEEK
WISEWOMEN
It’s December – now where did that year go!!!
Time vanishes and if we are not careful we can waste precious moments. As we scoot down the road towards Christmas Day, life is super hectic, isn’t it.
Functions, dos and parties are coming out of my ears, but it is so much fun and I am loving it all.
CHRISTMAS PARTIES

This is Aless and me of course
The year is coming to an end and I have just attended my third work Christmas Party. What a wonderful time of year it is when we can get together as colleagues and relax and have a jolly good old meal together.
The only problem for me was that two of the parties were at the same place the day after one another!!! I am feeling like a Chinese food junkie at the moment!!!

Are you enjoying the Christmas season in the good old festive way too.

MY TAKE ON THE POLICITICAL STORM
Wow, the black clouds were hanging over the governing bodies of Australia over the past few weeks. My gracious me! What a lot of political mongering!
The leader of the Opposition party of Australia was voted out due to a disagreement within his ranks over the climate change policy. I will not bore you with the details.
In his place stands a man least likely to be King….. His job was to sit back and take the exact opposite point of view of his comrade and he darn well won!
What a lot of drama. What a lot of shifty goings on in Canberra?
But that wasn’t the finish of the political drama. Oh no!
Blow me down, the Labour Party of NSW went for the jugular of their leader here in Sydney. The premier seemingly trying to do his best for NSW decided he would try to weed out the shonky, bad and disruptive elements of his party.
The response from this ‘element’ was to annihilate him with ‘pay back’. This ‘element’ then put forward a woman who is most likely a lame duck waiting to be pipped at the next post.
The press seems to think the big shakers behind the scenes will sit behind their puppet pulling the strings letting her dance to their tune until the next election.
Arh, politics, it is a mugs game!! You have to be glad you are watching from afar and not be the one having daggers stabbed in your back.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the whole aspect of governing the country was dignified?
But is that actually possible with the sorts of people who get elected, I ask you? I hate to say it, but fighting and brawling is the game of bully boys in the school playground, not the behaviour of the people we want running the country.
MY WEEK

BUS BOUQUETS
My faith in the public bus service has been taken to the next level. Am I saying this? Crazy isn’t it!!! I don’t catch the bus often but I needed a pre-paid ticket recently. I bought what I thought was a Travel 10 (a bus ticket that gives me ten rides whichever week I wish to travel)
It was not until my return trip from the city that I discovered what I had was a Weekly. I was only using the bus one day that week. The ticket cost about $28.00, a very expensive return bus fare for one trip and I was fuming.
So I went to the Newsagent and got a ‘faulty ticket’ envelope and wrote my story on the form which I immediately posted.
About a week later I receive a handwritten envelope with a With Compliments slip and a brand new Travel Ten Bus Pass. Well, I couldn’t believe it.
I am so impressed with State Transit, for their promptness and their speed and willingness of resolve. Well done!
SEMINAR

Using the Wise
I was again involved in organising an AAG NSW Seminar day last week. Professor Rebok from Baltimore, Maryland USA was our guest speaker.
He was a delightful man and his research project of putting older people into elementary schools is being touted as a huge success.
About five schools are in the project. Twenty people over 60 (vetted and trained) are being observed as they put in 19 hours a week for 2 years to see what improvements are made to their lives when they do something of value.
Positive results are coming in on all accounts, physically, mentally and socially. And the bonus was the children were gaining socially as well.
I really like the idea that these older people, with all their wisdom and knowledge, get a chance to pass it on. And the kids are also learning the true value of older people.
I know a lot of schools have parents or older people volunteering their time, but this research is monitoring these people every step of the way.
· Are they less depressed,
· Are they falling less,
· Are their cognitive and mobility improved?
When the evidence is collated then it is a positive step for encouraging all schools to utilise the hidden talent in the community knowing that only good will come out of it. Its about time.
THE DROUGHT HAS BROKEN

Lil and Maggie
Congratulations go to brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Anthony and Marjanna. Their son Gerard and his wife Elizabeth have just given birth to a girl Magdalena (Maggie). This is very exciting news as Anthony and Marjanna have a family of five sons. Now they have been blessed with a little girl, wonderful news…..
MISS C STOLE THE SHOW

Miss Pink in the middle - of course
Lana and I rolled up to the preschool Christmas celebration. Miss C was cast as a rabbit but I am absolutely convinced she wanted to be a Christmas tree.
While the rest of the rabbits and birds sat obediently at the back of the stage waiting their turn to play their part, Miss C wandered aimlessly around the stage between the Christmas trees. She just wanted to be at the front of the stage all the times, not stuck up the back.
As the play came to an end, the last words said by the speaker were:
“And the little fur tree that was left in the forest, now covered in decorations with a star on top was the prettiest Christmas tree in the world”

Miss C who was standing next to the Christmas tree promptly picked up her skirt to display her undies – with an unspoken look of:
“That Christmas tree will never outdo me”…….
This video footage will be priceless when she becomes the next Nicole Kidman!!!!
OVER 50 CLOTHING

Do you find putting together that wardrobe of yours daunting? As an older woman, it seems we struggle.
Lana and I know because we receive many emails about this. What can we do? What should we do? How can we make ourselves look trendy but without losing stye?
When you meet fashion directed at the young ones halfway, you are making a good start towards updating your look.
For some great ideas and lots of motivation read our article.

LET’S GET FIT

Is it possible not to put on weight at Christmas time?
I haven’t had one meal in my house for four days!!! HELP!
Have you put some plans in place to watch your Christmas food intake?
A couple of helpful Christmas party hints if you don’t want to put on weight:
Don’t go to Christmas functions in the first place? Well if you can’t do that:
· Immediately start a vegetation diet? Ban that enticing Christmas meat!
· Replace every form of liquid with water. Dull but resolute!
· If you must eat, chew each item 50 times before swallowing. Exhaust yourself!
· Keep a photo of a ‘fat you’ on the fridge for motivation. Check it out before you leave but don’t kid yourself this is your preferred look!
I know all those things won’t work because we want to eat, drink and be merry. The main thing is to try to keep the normal day to day intake as wholesome and healthy as can be. Then the occasional breakouts won’t impact on your too much.
And at all costs keep your exercise on track because exercise has the ability to make you happy to...

I was thrilled to receive some pet photos so here are some of your pets:

LANA’S WISEWEEK

I had the opportunity to catch up in person with Lana this week which was wonderful.
She and I are working hard on our secret project…this project is taking a lot of our time but we will let you know when it finally becomes realised.
In the meantime pop over and catch up with all her news.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

A Christmas approaches and we extend our hearts to all around us, do as Jessica Archmint says:
Keep your Christmas-heart open all the year round.
If we could do that, what a wonderful world it would be…..
Until next week, may the blessings of the Christmas season be with you.
