Look Instantly Younger - Without Surgery
If you have been using the same colour and brand of makeup for many years, if so, you may be adding 5 to 10 years to your age.
There are a plethora of products on the market, promising to make our skins appear younger, however, we all know that proper skin care and lifestyle effects the appearance of our skin.
So just how do we make our skin look younger?
For your makeup to look flawless, you need to start with a good canvas your face. We’ve always been taught to cleanse tone and moisturise our skin twice a day. It’s also important to exfoliate to remove the dead skin cells and the surplus grime that makes your skin appear dull. The difference is amazing – after a few exfoliations your skin will glow. My dermatologist advised me to use a facial buffer to remove the dead skin cells, although many women prefer to use exfoliation creams containing tiny grains to slough off dead skin cells and simulate the skin’s natural renewal process. When using the cream, massage it gently into your skin using tiny upward circular motions. The massage also helps to stimulate the underlying muscles and improves circulation and encourages lymphatic drainage. Remember to avoid the delicate eye area. Massage for 1-2 minutes and wash off in tepid water before applying moisturiser.

Drink Water
Skin dehydrations are exasperated by central heating, air conditioning and weather conditions such as sun and wind. Water not only flushes out harmful toxins in your body, it also rehydrates your skin. Always keep a bottle or glass of water nearby to sip regularly rather than downing one glass at a time.
Face Mask
Apply a hydrating face mask at least once a week to keep your skin looking refreshed. Leading up to special occasions – you can use lifting masks such as the miracle mask called “The Lift” used by many Hollywood Stars. This mask tightens your face in all the right places.
Primer
A good primer is a must. It can be applied over moisturiser to help smooth out your complexion, creating a more even base for your make-up, allowing your foundation to just glide on. "
Foundation
How many women do you see wearing make-up that looks like a mask Foundation should only be used to even out your complexion, avoid using it as a concealer. The best way to apply foundation is with a large foundation brush using downward strokes so that any fine hairs (also a sign of older skin) are pushed down and become less visible.

Too much make-up accentuates flaws and collects in the lines of the face. Also avoid using make-up on dry patches of skin. For ageing skin use a lightweight, sheer foundation to add luminosity to the face. To find the right colour for you, test the foundation on your jaw line and if you have chosen the right colour, it should virtually ‘disappear’. If you have a ruddy complexion, opt for a yellow-toned foundation to counteract the redness. If you still see redness once applied, skip blush and finish off you cheeks with a little powder bronzer. As women get older, their necks tend to become lighter than their face. Fix this by dusting a little bronzer down the neck, especially in the middle.
If your skin is not too dry, dust a small amount of translucent power to ‘set’ your make-up so that it lasts longer.
TOP TIPS Press a dampened sponge over your face to create a natural, fresh, long lasting look. The best shade concealer to disguise brown spots is Peach. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen under your makeup when venturing outdoors.
Eyes
Wake up those tired looking eyes with a magic wand concealer that contains light reflecting pigments to brighten your eyes. Apply it gently under your eyes, down towards your cheeks.
The delicate eyelid areas over time, lose their elasticity and appear crepey. Avoid using eye shadow with sparkles as they emphasises fine lines. Apply the eye shadow on the lid closer to the lashes. Try neutral tones to give your eyes a younger looking appearance. Throw out your bright blue and green eye-shadows! If you like to line your eyes for a more dramatic effect, avoid liquid liners and dark colours. Soft kohl pencils in grey, brown or navy can be flattering when used sparingly.
TOP TIPS Curl eyelashes using an eyelash curler before applying mascara as this tends to “open the eye’. Applying concealer to the hollow sides of the nose (the spot next to your eye socket) will also open up your eyes and make them look bright and awake.

Eyebrows
The shape: before you start, brush your eyebrows and look at your face in a large mirror. Start your eyebrow line directly above the inside corner of your eye and finish just slightly past the outside corner. Tweeze hairs growing towards the centre of your nose and any other stragglers. Brows tend to thin out as we age, so using a brow pencil or powder, lightly and with feathery strokes, fill in gaps to make them appear thicker.
Cheeks
Blusher adds a warm glow and defines your face. Smile at the mirror and brush some peachy coloured blusher on the apples of the cheeks and feather out and upwards following the contours of your cheeks and finish where your ears meets your face. If you have a ruddy complexion or have naturally rosy cheeks, use a dusting of bronzer to define the cheeks.

Lips
Some women wear the same coloured lipstick they’ve always worn, but unfortunately lips, like complexions, change with age. Beautiful, full ‘cupid bows’ disappear and corners droop, as your facial muscles relax. The challenge for mature women is to minimise the effects of ageing and produce the best possible result. It is still possible to obtain beautiful looking lips, with a bit of tender, loving care.
Dark lipstick colours will make lips appear thinner, so stick with light-to-medium shades. If your lips need defining, use a lip-toned shade, or a colour that's no more than one shade darker than your lipstick or gloss colour, and don't line outside your lips to make them appear bigger. For more natural results, apply the lip liner after the lipstick.
TOP TIPS To even out uneven sized lips, dab some highlighter in the centre of the smaller lip and this will make it appear fuller. Protect lips by wearing lip balm with a SPF 15 in winter and summer months.
