Its that flattering shape with clothing

Clothing

I have been doing a lot of research on clothing for wise women. The truth is, most of us sort of change shape when we get older and I think clothes we buy should reflect this.

As we look in the mirror now, the woman who stands before us has a body shape that requires a whole new way of dressing and, I guess this is where we can get trapped. We are stuck in the “past 25 years of dressing style” and we have continued to select similar things that have always attracted our eye.   Something that “used” to look flattering, doesn’t necessary do the job now.  This shopping practice is really a hard thing to alter because we feel we will indeed look old if we change this familiar image of ourselves.

And when we look at the clothing style of our grandmother’s, we see that there was a slide into what could be construed as 'older women' clothing that we simply don't want to go near.

The first thing is to observe the changes in our body – we get a little shorter and our shoulders roll a little forward. Our necks lack definition and of course that bit in the middle of our torso thickens up. These things may only be slight, but thinking about how to flatter these areas rather than ignore or worsen the appearance is a good start in learning how to dress attractively.

Being a creative person, I have always put stuff together – with differing success I might add!! The thing is, I don't mind being different but I certainly never aim for being mutton dressed up as lamb. I love mucking around, putting bits together. This type of dressing is not necessarily for everyone because, let's face it, it's not a look you always get right!! But I am not afraid to wear what I have personally put together. Also, it's just not me to hunt around buying outfits that scream careful.

Oh, how I admire that look in other women though. I see elegant and simple and think it must be the most stylish of all clothing. And it seems so – but not on me!! I like to reflect my own personality and that is, hopefully, colourful, fun and a bit daring. I am well aware that this is not for everyone. I do have to be careful as I age though to make sure I 'flatter' the ageing bits and keep 'respectable' in mind!!!!!

As far as my all time best advice goes – wearing sleeves - especially three quarter length is probably the most flattering.  And if you have wrinkles around your neck area, it's probably not best to wear a plunging neckline.  If you feel your legs are not your best feature, don’t wear a mini skirt.

Keep the word “flatter” in the forefront of your mind when shopping.  Don’t buy anything unless you honestly believe it makes you look good and feel good.

We are going to have fun gathering expert help to learn the best ways to dress well…..What are those little things that make all the difference…….we want to know!!!!!

In the meantime have fun playing around with ‘your’ look!
