FELDENKRAIS
MOVEMENT FOR LIFE and BONES FOR LIFE

Elaine Altman is a Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner who believes that the Feldenkrais Method improves posture, flexibility, coordination, self-image and alleviates muscular tension and pain.
Where did it originate?
Developed by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984), in Israel and the US, the Method has been practised in Australia since the 1970’s. It is based on principles of physics, biomechanics, neuroscience, human development and learning.
What is the Movement for Life process?
“Movement is life. Life is a process. Improve the quality of the process and you improve the quality of life itself”
– Moshe Feldenkrais.
In Movement for Life, the Feldenkrais Method is the basis for a program of selective lessons designed to suit your individual needs; Through gentle exploration of natural movements, we learn to improve the way we function in our daily lives – how to stand and sit more comfortably, reach more efficiently, and turn without risk of injury. We re-discover the joy of natural spontaneous movements. You will experience renewed flexibility, improved circulation, better posture and equilibrium, and comfortable sitting. If you are recovering from illness or surgery, restoring integrated and co-ordinated body use prevents post-operative and other complications associated with pain and stiffness, and restores a sense of vitality and well-being.
What is the “Bones for Life” program?
As we age, our bones naturally lose density. If this process occurs at a faster than normal rate, osteoporosis can occur. The 'Bones for Life’ program is designed to stimulate bone health, improve skeletal alignment, foster a dynamic walk and develop skill at restoring equilibrium (eg. When standing up from a lying position).
Through Bones for Life movements and activities, we become aware of our skeletal alignment, and weight distribution, and learn to move in a way that gives a sense of strength and empowerment, whilst minimising wear and tear on our joints and enabling graceful movement. This program was researched and developed by Ruthy Alon, a student and protégé of Moshe Feldenkrais. Practitioners complete specific extra training by Ruthy Alon to teach this program.
Elaine explained that Feldenkrais Practitioners complete a Professional Training Program over four years. To maintain and enhance the Australian Feldenkrais Guild Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics, Certified Feldenkrais Practitioners (CFP) are required to complete annual continuing education.
