Can you be happy ALL the time?
Is it a big project, a big ask?
I guess if you could be happy “most” of the time – that would be a start. But how? How do we remain being constantly happy when other things get in the way?
Is there a ‘happiness’ secret?
Well, there are no magic potions or tablets? Nothing like that, I’m afraid. However, there are countless “happiness experts” who can tell you how it’s done. They have the message, the inspiration and the answers! But all they are really doing is pointing you in the right direction, encouraging you to think the right way, helping you face your situation. This is brilliant and I can’t help thinking what fun it would be to attend a ‘happiness workshop’. I know after an hour or two there, I would feel like I had made tremendous leaps forward towards my ‘happiness always’ goal. But, you don’t really need to go to a workshop to learn to be happy.
What it comes down to, is you!
I’m here to say that happiness is available to absolutely everyone. No-one has the divine rights to it. You, and everyone on earth, have the right to be happy. You even have the right to be happy all the time. Now, how is this going to happen?
The first thing to do is change the things that makes you unhappy and you are on your way. This might take a lot of hard work initially, but it will be worth it. It could be you are unhappy because you are lonely, you hate your job, you are fat, you feel stressed, you feel bored, your health is bothering you, and so the list goes on. Now, I look at that list and think – every single one of those excuses is changeable. You have to make the changes because if you are not up for some effort on your part, your whole life will be a result of your inaction. How awful could that be? Here you are letting yourself down because you can’t be bothered to alter things. A few simple changes and you’ll notice the difference in the way you feel. Gradually, the worry, the angst, the tension and the bother will ease and happiness will be what you feel.
I have spent many years yearning for complete happiness and I know that my downfall can be negative thinking. I believe that being positive about yourself and what you think makes you happy. The second the old negative thought comes charging in – well, instant misery. So I say to myself “why let it in to begin with”. It takes a lot of hard work and some clever mind work but that moment I recognise a negative thought and its looming possibilities, I try to reject it before it gets a hold. That is my strategy and I work on it. I allow my positive thoughts to put their case and go with those. Why head on down the dark road of despair, it gets you nowhere.
So my advice is to stay positive and happiness is the by-product.
Your unhappiness might be because you are overweight.
Take charge of your thought patterns this minute.
Visualise yourself fit and happy. It’s a great vision, isn’t it? Now put in the effort. You see, people who are fit, healthy and happy actually do work on themselves. Don’t just think it is a given. And there you have it - you have to work on yourself! Do your homework on your diet and get cracking with some exercise. You will immediately feel great about yourself because you are concerned and caring for your body and your soul knows it. It will start to feel happy. It’s such a good feeling.
So by changing some of your behaviours you will find happiness come rolling in.
But always remember, we need to make an effort to work towards being happy. Really -
it’s yours for the taking – you just need to take it.
Good luck in your pursuit, I hope you can catch it and enjoy this spectacular feeling of happiness.
